The East End’s newly-elected Suffolk County Legislator Bridget Fleming (2nd L.D.) will be guest speaker at the 39th Annual Meeting of the League of Women Voters of the Hamptons on Sunday, May 15, 1-3 p.m. at the Southampton Cultural Center, 25 Pond Lane.

The public is invited to a reception at 1 p.m., followed by her talk on issues and initiatives that directly affect the East End. Legislator Fleming, who was elected to the Suffolk County Legislature in November 2015, has been selected chair of the Ways & Means Committee, vice chair of the Health Committee, and serves on three other legislative committees as well.

Ms. Fleming previously served on the Southampton Town Board from 2010-15. She worked as an Assistant D.A. in the office of District Attorney Robert Morgenthau in Manhattan, where she was a member of the Trial Bureau and Sex Crimes Prosecution Unit, and later became chief of a unit devoted to attacking fraud in public programs.

After Legislator Fleming’s talk, the business portion of the League meeting will include adoption of the budget for 2016-17, the election of officers and directors, and the adoption of local program.

Also on the agenda is the presentation of the Betty Desch Student Leadership Award of a $1,000 scholarship to a graduating senior from a local high school, and the announcement of the two students, 11th graders Rachel Hoyt and Madeline Koral of the Bridgehampton School, who were awarded trips to the NYS League Education Foundation’s annual “Students Inside Albany” conference, May 22-24, where they will learn about state government and spend time on the floor of the NYS Senate and Assembly with Senator Kenneth LaValle and Assemblyman Fred Thiele, Jr.
