In the neighborhood of Temple Avenue, pets live in peace. They get fed on time, and get walked when they need to use the bathroom. Everything is perfectly normal here. Or so we thought… We still have one house in this neighborhood where a dog named Fireball is known as “strange” and “unusual”. A co-worker joins me on an investigation on this eccentric dog’s life.
Q: What is your favorite color?
Q: What do you think of the neighborhood?
A: The neighborhood is a nice place to go for walks and has some good spots to use the bathroom.
Q: What time do you usually wake up?
A: 5:00 AM
Q: Do you have any animal friends in the neighborhood?
A: Not many. Most of the dogs in the neighborhood annoy me.
Q: Do you play any instruments?
A: I used to play guitar, but I haven’t done it much lately.
Q: How is your hearing?
Q: Does your collar feel nice on your neck?
A: My collar feels very relaxing. It is better than ever.
Q: Are you sure your hearing is ok?
A: What? Oh, yes it’s fine.
Q: How do you show that you need to use the bathroom?
A: When i need to use the potty, I jump up and down and whine.
Q: How often do you sleep?
A: I don’t get a good rest very often. Especially when nosyy reporters disturb me with their questions.
Q: How is your vision.
A: As it turns out, I need glasses. Otherwise, I have to move very close to you in order to see you.
Q: What breed of dog are you?
A: I believe I am a mix, part Beagle, part Jack Russell Terrier.
Q: How often do you eat?
A: I eat two times a day, and I love it.
Q: What makes you happy the most?
A: Getting scratched behind the ears.
Q: how do you stay clean?
A: I lick myself, but I don’t do it very often.
Q: What is your favorite room in the house?
A: My mom’s room. I also like my brother’s room.
So, after we questioned him, we noticed that he had something wrong with his leg. We asked him questions about it, which he was very reluctant to answer. But, we eventually did get him to talk about it.
Q: So, Fireball, do you know what happened to your leg?
A: I’m not sure. I was fine one day, and when I woke up the next, my leg was in pain.
Q: Does your leg hurt?
A: Sometimes it does.
Q: Does it hurt to put pressure on your foot?
A: Yes, that’s why I have been limping for the past few days.
Q: What kind of pain is it?
A: A stabbing pain.
Q: What were you doing the day before your leg started to hurt?
A: Well, I was just chilling inside the house with my awesome brother.
Q: Can you run with only three legs?
A: What dog can’t?
Q: Is it just your leg that hurts?
Q: Can you sometimes stand on that leg?
A: Yes, sometimes.
Q: Have you been to the vet yet?
A: No, and I don’t want to either.
Q: Do you wish your leg wasn’t bothering you?
A: Yes, but it happens anyway.
So, as it turns out, Fireball really isn’t that strange after all. Sure, he has some unusual qualities, but he is just a normal dog, trying to survive, just like any other regular neighborhood dog. Though he is becoming a bit hard of hearing, he is facing his challenges in life head on. You could not find a braver dog in all of Long Island.
