New North Fork Jewish Congregation Finds a Home for the High Holy Days — And Maybe Beyond

The new Jewish congregation begun this spring on the North Fork by Rabbi Gadi Capela took its name, Ohel Moed or "Tent of Meeting," from the fact that it was a sanctuary without walls, meeting in the homes of its members. The Cutchogue Fire Department’s 69th Annual Chicken Barbecue — still Long Island’s largest chicken barbecue — was held Saturday, Aug. 22. From afternoon until well into the evening, the Fire Department and Ladies Auxiliary served up more than 3,200 chicken dinners — complete with local corn, tomato & cucumber salads, potato salad and peaches and ice cream — under the big tent and through takeout in the department's new firehouse.
