Canio’s Cultural Café Irish History Film Series: “Jimmy’s Hall” at Hampton Library
March 20, 2017 @ 5:15 pm - 8:00 pmFree
Join Canio’s Cultural Cafe’s for the second film in our Irish History Film series, Jimmy’s Hall with a discussion following the film, led by Irish history aficionados, Sigrid Meinel & Richard Lawless. Jimmy’s Hall is directed by Ken Loach, and set in the early 1930’s, a decade after the civil war, which we looked at in our first film, Michael Collins. Jimmy’s Hall tells the story of Jimmy Gralton, leader of the Irish Revoluntionary Workers Group, upon his return to Ireland after a 10 year hiatus. The Hall is a dance hall that Jimmy decides to re-open upon his return. Excitiement and tensions in the community mount as the church and local military are drawn into the scene.
Beautifully filmed, Jimmy’s Hall captures an important chapter in 20th Century Irish struggles. This film screening is at the Hampton Library in Bridgehampton. Call 631.725.4926 for information.
