Works by Environmental Artist, Cindy Pease Roe
Opening Reception: Friday, July 26th from 6:00 to 8:00pm.
the small and microscopic organisms drifting or floating in the sea or fresh water, consisting chiefly of diatoms, protozoans, small crustaceans, and the eggs and larval stages of larger animals. Many animals are adapted to feed on plankton, especially by filtering the water.
PLANKTON NOT PLASTICS celebrates the remarkable biodiversity of the elegant drifters that wander the currents of the ocean.
Environmental artist Cindy Pease Roe’s paintings and sculptures celebrate the luminous beauty of plankton. These works of art simultaneously enchant and engage the public on issues surrounding micro plastics and its effect on the largest to the tiniest of the ocean’s creatures–from the baleen whale to plankton.
Cindy’s sculptures are primarily made from marine debris collected from local beach clean ups. Her artwork is friendly, engaging, playful, educational and, most importantly, persuasive. Her mission is to create pieces that give voice to the natural world which has been silenced and abused and to ignite the public to change and live life in a more mindful way.
In addition to the installation, educator Cindy Pease Roe will conduct two hands-on Upsculpt workshops for children (ages 8 and up) at the museum, one on July 28th and another on August 4th from 1-3pm.
Cost for the workshop is $25 and includes materials. Space is limited,so, please call the Museum at 631 725-0770 to reserve a space.
