Oysterponds Historical Society presents “Rum Running: A Talk & Tasting”
November 9, 2019 @ 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm
FreeRUM RUNNING: TALK AND TASTING WITH HISTORIAN AMY FOLK AT OHS SATURDAY NOVEMBER 9
OHS Collections Manager Amy Folk will host a discussion on Rum Running during Prohibition times on November 9 at OHS.
3:30pm – 5pm
Location: Poquatuck Hall, 1160 Skippers Ln., Orient, NY 11957 Cost: Free*
In Hotels and Inns of the North Fork (2009), co-authors Amy Folk and Geoffrey Fleming fixed their historian’s lens on the subject of Rum Running. During Prohibition times, our local small ports were a favorite stop on the Rumrunner’s map, contributing to the “leisure industry” of the day. Amy will share stories based on archival research. Appetizers served. Registration is required.
*Although this is a free event, registration is required so that we have an accurate headcount. To register and indicate your attendance at this event, please email matt.montelione@ohsny.org with your name, address, and let us know if you are a current OHS member or not. If you are unsure, we can check for you. Alternatively, you can call the office to register at (631) 323-2480.
The Oysterponds Historical Society, founded in 1944, celebrates and shares North Fork culture and heritage by preserving, exhibiting and interpreting the history of the Orient and East Marion communities, and our place in national history.
