SUMMARY:Sag Harbor Community Reading of Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein"
DESCRIPTION:Most everyone has encountered some version of Frankenstein through the many film versions and adaptations that proliferate in popular culture. From Halloween costumes\, to cookies\, to footwear and cocktails\, some image of the monster is deeply rooted in our collective psyche. But how many have actually read the novel\, Frankenstein or The Modern Prometheus by Mary Shelley? Published in 1881\, the book centers on the scientist Victor Frankenstein and the creature he creates through the spark of electricity. What follows the experiment is one of the most famous and moving horror stories in world literature. \n\n\n\nJoin us for a community reading of a portion of Frankenstein on Saturday\, October 24 at twelve noon at the Sag Harbor Whaling Museum. The event is co-sponsored by the Masonic Lodge\, the Sag Harbor Whaling Museum\, and Canio’s Cultural Cafe.

SUMMARY:Racial Justice East End Book Discussion: Finding Latinx
DESCRIPTION:Racial Justice East End hosts a three-part book discussion on Finding Latinx: In Search of the Voices Redefining Latino Identity by Paola Ramos this fall at three locations on the South Fork. \n\n\n\nThe first meeting will be September 22 at Eastville Heritage House on Hampton Rd\, Sag Harbor.  Second\, October 13\, at the UU Congregation of the South Fork on the Bridgehampton Turnpike.  Third\,  November 10 at OLA’s office on Goodfriend Drive\, East Hampton. All sessions are on Tuesdays\, 6-7:30 pm.    \n\n\n\n Register HERE. \n\n\n\nLatinos across the U.S. are redefining identities\, pushing boundaries\, and awakening politically in powerful and surprising ways. Many—Afrolatino\, indigenous\, Muslim\, queer and undocumented\, living in large cities and small towns—are voices who have been chronically overlooked in how the diverse population of almost sixty million Latinos in the U.S. has been represented. No longer.  \n\n\n\nPaola Ramos is an Emmy-Award winning journalist. She is a contributor for Telemundo News and MSNBC\, where she is host of “Field Report.” Ramos is a former Correspondent for Vice News. Before her career as a journalist\, Ramos was Deputy Director of Hispanic Media for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign\, a political appointee during the Obama Administration\, and served in President Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign.  \n\n\n\nIn this empowering cross-country travelogue\, journalist and activist Paola Ramos finds communities of people defining the controversial term\, “Latinx.” She introduces us to indigenous Oaxacans who rebuilt the main street in a post-industrial town in upstate New York; “Las Poderosas” who fight for reproductive rights in Texas; as well as drag queens\, environmental activists\, farmworkers\, and migrants detained at our border.  \n\n\n\nCo-sponsors for this discussion include Christ Episcopal Church\, CMEE (Children’s Museum of the East End\, Eastville Community & Historical Society\, HARLI (Hope and Resilience LI) \, Ocean Zendo\, and OLA of Eastern LI..  Founding members are Canio’s Cultural Cafe and Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the South Fork.
