Winter Wildlife on a Barrier Island with Group for the East End

Sunday, December 9, 2018 from 1 to 3:30 p.m. During this wildlife search along Dune Road in Hampton Bays, we should see distant gannets, lounging Harbor Seals, various gulls, many different ducks, a handful of shorebirds, and perhaps a few birds of prey. The Hampton Bays Hibernians are also hosting their 15th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Saturday, March 23 at 11 a.m. Engineer Steve Lemanski of SBS Builders will be this year’s Grand Marshal. The parade steps off from the Hampton Bays Middle School on Ponquogue Avenue, heading north to Montauk Highway, where it heads west to the intersection with Flanders Road.

We will meet in the parking lot on the west side of Shinnecock Inlet to comb the shoreline for seashells, crab shells, skate egg cases, and perhaps even a sand dollar! American Legion Hand-Aldrich Post 924 members will host a Memorial Day service at the post on Monday, May 27, at 10 a.m. It will be followed by a parade beginning at the Legion on Ponquogue Avenue, continuing to the intersection of Main Street and turning west toward Good Ground Cemetery.
