All About Groundhogs at the Quogue Wildlife Refuge

Come to the Nature Center to meet QWR’s resident Groundhog. This groundhog moved into one of the Refuge enclosures from Volunteers for Wildlife in October of 2019. Learn all about what groundhogs eat, where they live, and why this groundhog needs to live in captivity. A craft will be available for children to make at the end of the short presentation. Meet a variety of creepy crawlies including giant Walking Sticks, Smokey Oak Millipede, Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches, and a couple of snake species! Learn about what they eat, their defense mechanisms, where they are native to and what makes them so special. Kids will have a chance to touch them and see up close.
