Congressman Nick LaLota came to Southold Town Police Department headquarters Thursday to announce just over $1 million in federal funding for town police.
What will that buy? Ten new Ford Explorers and F-150s to be used by patrol officers and 20 duel band VHF and 800 mhz radios allowing police to communicate with other emergency agencies, says Southold Police Chief Steve Grattan.
Mr. LaLota said he also expects the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to dredge Mattituck Inlet this fall, paying special attention to the Mattituck Park District’s Bailie Beach, which is eroding and in danger of breaching.
The Park District gathered nearly 800 signatures on a petition last fall asking Mr. LaLota to restore Bailie Beach, after a maintenance dredging scheduled for the fall of 2025 was postponed.
Mr. LaLota also held a press conference outside Riverhead Town Hall announcing $2.25 million in federal funding to connect 28 Calverton properties impacted by PFAS/PFOA contamination near the former Grumman plant at EPCAL with municipal water service.
