The League of Women Voters of the Hamptons, Shelter Island and North Fork is holding a virtual debate for the two candidates for New York State’s 1st Senatorial District on Monday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m.
State Senator Anthony Palumbo, a Republican, is facing challenger Christopher Murray, an attorney and environmental and civil rights advocate.
It takes place live on Monday, Sept. 28, 7-8 p.m. on Southampton Town’s SEA-TV YouTube channel, and also starting the next day on that same site at www.youtube.com/c/SeaTVSouthampton
According to debate procedures, candidates will make timed opening and closing statements and answer a series of questions contributed by community and League members.
The League will not be holding a debate for the First Assembly District this year, and a potential First Congressional District debate is in the works — we will post the details if a debate is scheduled to be held.
Election information on all the candidates on your ballot will be available in early October on the League’s electronic voters guide by going to www.vote411.org and plugging in your address.
The League reminds voters that Saturday, October 24, marks the start of Early Voting, which runs through Sunday, November 1. Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
More details on early voting schedules and the new touchscreen voting machines being used in this election are on the Suffolk County Board of Elections website.
In the lead-up to the Nov. 3, 2026 midterm elections, against the backdrop of unprecedented challenges to voting rights and election administration, the League of Women Voters of the Hamptons, Shelter Island & North Fork is hosting a virtual discussion for the public on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 6:30 p.m.
Titled “Voting Rights and the 2026 Midterms: Election Challenges, Threats and Integrity,” the forum features two prominent election law experts—David Becker and Jerry Goldfeder.
The event can be seen on Southampton SEA-TV’s YouTube channel, live that night at 6:30 p.m. and also starting the next day at the same site, www.youtube.com/c/SeaTVSouthampton. Find Out More.
