“Our Housing Crisis:” North Fork Civics Forum Will Hear from Locals

The North Fork Civics will hold a panel discussion on the housing crisis, “Our Housing Crisis: Local Voices” with a parent, an educator, a firefighter, health care professional and a small business owner on Monday, Aug. 31 at 5 p.m. at CAST in Southold.
“Interested in avoiding higher taxes and traffic as bad as the South Fork, while helping our local kids and businesses thrive? If yes, come to our forum on Monday to hear directly from locals how to help!” says Katy Stokes of the Housing Working Group of the North Fork Civics, a coalition of civic associations in Southold Town.
“Rather than a panel of “experts”, we’re turning this over to a diverse group of citizens most affected by the lack of affordable housing on the North Fork,” says Tony Asch, a board member of the Orient Association who is working on the forum. “They’re best positioned to explain to our community and leaders just how the housing situation affects them and ripples through the entire town: parents, businesses and existing homeowners.”
Panelists Include:
Justo Choquin, owner of Latin Fuzion in Southold Mike Gaunci, volunteer firefighter and also a small business owner Paul Connor, Chief Administrative Officer for ELIH Ken Dickerson, parent Amy Brennan, Principal of Cutchogue East Joey Owens, young person looking for housing Kimberly Click, caregiver for several family members
The event will be followed by a Q&A. All are welcome. CAST is at 53930 Main Road in Southold.
“We invite you to hear from residents who struggle with housing options on the North Fork and the impact this has on families, schools, services and businesses,” says the North Fork Civics.
