RISE Life Services operates The Main Street Market Food Pantry at 901 East Main Street in Riverhead, which is open every Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Anyone is welcome to come and get food from them. Most of those who use this resource have difficulty providing for themselves or their families.

The community finds out about the food pantry through Island Harvest, the main source of its donated food.

Now, RISE is partnering with Island Harvest to host a Community Food Distribution Day on Thursday, June 27.

Volunteers from both RISE Life Services and Island Harvest will gather in the parking lot of the RISE office building and the Main Street Market Food Pantry at 901 East Main Street, Suite 500, in Riverhead. The Island Harvest truck will arrive on June 27 at 1 p.m. and food shares will be handed out to all who come until the inventory is gone.

Last year, RISE’s food pantry expanded to this new downtown Riverhead location and now receives double the allocation of food. This addition was of particular importance given the fact that one of the largest food pantries in the area recently closed. The Main Street Market Food Pantry has experienced a steady-rising increase in people coming in to get food.

“RISE is very pleased to be able to host this food distribution day with Island Harvest,” said JoAnn Vitale, who coordinates the food pantry program, “It will be ‘all hands on deck,’ handing out food to anyone who comes. There will be a truck and special area set up in our parking lot to serve even more people than ever.”
