Getting Your Sea Legs and Building a Tool of Peace, Unity Picnic and Raising the Rink, Hallockville Hootenanny

• We’re expecting mostly sunny skies today, with a high temperature near 90 degrees but a heat index as high as 95. There’s a 30 percent chance of afternoon and evening showers, with a calm wind becoming southwest 5 to 9 miles per hour in the afternoon. Skies will clear overnight, with a low around 74. Tuesday will be sunny, with a high near 89, and Wednesday will be mostly sunny, with a high near 86.
• Over the course of a summer, nearly 300 “swabs” — new recruits at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn. — get their sea legs aboard the 295-foot three-masted square rigger Eagle, which was in Greenport all weekend. • The Let’s Raise the Rink community fundraiser for an ice rink in Greenport’s Mitchell Park brought crowds to downtown Greenport Saturday evening for music with Deadwood & Friends, hot dogs and hamburgers to raise funds for the GFD’s fireboat, beverages from local purveyors and a slapstick competition with the New York Islanders.
