• We’re expecting sunny skies today, with a high temperature near 84 degrees and a west wind 6 to 10 miles per hour. It will be mostly clear overnight, with a low around 66. Friday will be sunny, with a high near 86, and Saturday will be partly sunny, with a high near 84.

• On Saturday, August 20, 2022, Southampton Village Ocean Rescue will be hosting their first ever S-Mile Swim Challenge Event at Coopers Beach at 7 a.m. The is geared to bring the community together by having both participants and spectators support their local emergency responders while swimmers challenge their strength, endurance and resilience. Here’s how to get involved.

• The Riverhead Town Board will discuss prospective planning applicants to complete the town’s comprehensive plan, the East End Child Advocacy Center and an update on a site plan for a building at 12 McDermott Avenue at its 10 a.m. work session. • Noiz performs a free outdoor concert of R&B, Dance & Hip-Hop at Good Ground Park, 9A Squiretown Road in Hampton Bays this evening at 6 p.m. 

• Suffolk County reported 397 new cases of Covid-19 on Tuesday, Aug. 16, with 7 percent of people tested testing positive. There were 213 hospitalized people who had the virus, with 51 percent of them hospitalized due to Covid and 13 of them in ICU. The county reported three new fatalities from the virus, bringing the death toll here to 4,540 people since March of 2020.
