Riverhead Pans New North Fork Pipeline Route, North Forkers on the Housing Crisis, September Beacon!

• We’re expecting partly sunny skies today, with a high temperature near 77 degrees and a 20 percent chance of showers before 11 a.m., with a north wind around 6 miles per hour, becoming southeast in the afternoon. It will be mostly cloudy overnight, with a 40 percent chance of showers, mainly after 2 a.m. Tuesday will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 80 and a chance of showers increasing throughout the day. Wednesday will be mostly cloiudy, with a high near 77 and a 50 percent chance of showers before 8 a.m. and after 2 p.m.
• A change in route for the North Fork Pipeline did little to quell Riverhead’s distaste for the project, as residents and town officials were sharply critical at a public hearing last week at the Riverhead Free Library. Read More.
• The North Fork Civics will hold a panel discussion on the housing crisis, “Our Housing Crisis: Local Voices” this evening at 5 p.m. at CAST in Southold. “Rather than a panel of “experts”, we’re turning this over to a diverse group of citizens most affected by the lack of affordable housing on the North Fork,” says Tony Asch, a board member of the Orient Association who is working on the forum. “They’re best positioned to explain to our community and leaders just how the housing situation affects them and ripples through the entire town: parents, businesses and existing homeowners.” Find Out More.
