“There is a better life for those that become aware, and elect or grasp, that they deserve and can have a better life,” says Richard Demato, owner of RJD Gallery. That’s why this year’s curated collection, a show benefitting the domestic violence advocacy group The Retreat, is titled “Believe.”
“Believe” continues a ten-year collaboration between The Retreat, RJD Gallery, Richard Demato, and artists throughout the world. Begun in 2009 by Richard Demato as a way to cultivate donors for The Retreat, the show continues to fulfill that mission. He considers the show as a way for artists to “empower and support children and women, to achieve a better life and world to live in.” The Retreat receives 100 percent of entry fees and 50 percent of show sales.
“Believe” will show at RJD Gallery, 2385 Main Street, Bridgehampton from April 13 through 26.
An opening night celebration, free and open to the public, will be held on Saturday, April 13 at 6 p.m. Information on the show can be found at www.AllAgainstAbuse.org or by calling 631.329.4398.
The 23 pieces selected for the curated collection were chosen for their technical quality and strength of composition in supporting The Retreat’s mission of ending the cycle of violence and the empowerment of survivors. The works were submitted from 20 artists spanning the globe and include paintings, sculptures, photography, and ink drawings.
