Join author Ralph Brady as he explores Long Island and takes us on a visit to a wide variety of historic sites. While such places as Sagamore Hill, Walt Whitman’s birthplace, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy may be familiar to everyone with an interest in our area’s history, this program promises to be full of surprises as well. Learn where the first U.S. Navy Submarine Base was commissioned, how the first transatlantic passenger flights left from Port Washington, where America’s first published African American poet lived, and much more! Enjoy Brady’s collection of current and vintage photographs during this fast-paced armchair tour of thirty-nine different historic sites on Long Island! This event includes wine and cheese and a book sale & signing!
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Landmarks & Historic Sites of Long Island is Ralph Brady’s first book, followed by a history of his old hometown of Glendale in Queens County, and a time-travel novel based on his family’s history, set in 1899 Greenport and New Suffolk. Brady has been a Long Island resident for more than forty years and continues to pursue his love of Long Island’s history and his exploration of local waters as a certified SCUBA diver and kayaking enthusiast.
