Saturday, December 10 is the birthdate of Emily Dickinson, arguably the most celebrated woman poet in the United States. Born in Amherst in 1830, Emily Dickinson wrote some 1,789 poems published many years after her death. Annual marathon readings of her work are held at her birthplace in Massachusetts.

In honor of the poet’s birthdate, Canio’s Books will hold an afternoon tea accompanied by homebaked goods at 3:30 p.m. at the bookshop. Canio’s will be pouring a jasmine black tea blend from Simpson & Vail ‘s new line of “Literary Teas.”

Emily Dickinson was known in her community as a fine baker, offering gingerbread cakes to neighbors and would often included a poem with the gift. The bookshop is offering a 20% discount on all poetry titles through out the day.

All are invited to attend.
