Celebrating Shakespeare at Floyd Memorial Library

April 27, 2014 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Celebrating Shakespeare: A 450th Birthday Tribute in Song, with Jere Jacob, Rebekah White, Dee LaVeglia and Mel Mendelssohn.

What we call the “Age of Shakespeare” was also remarkable for the quality of music and poetry that English composers combined to produce a golden age of song. William Byrd, Orlando Gibbons, Thomas Morley, Thomas Campion, John Wilbye and, most notably, John Dowland, wrote music of every variety for singing, dancing and the theatre. This one-hour tribute to Shakespeare’s birthday features a selection of English songs to celebrate the life and work of the great playwright/poet, and to illuminate the Elizabethan world in which he created his enduring masterpieces.
