Coffee with Ron-The “Adrift” series
Ron will talk about his scanned digital collages from the “Adrift” series that are being exhibited for the first time in Greenport. He will discuss his artistic intentions and scanning techniques. Questions will be welcomed and encouraged.
The beaches of the North Fork have been the main source of Barron’s material for the scans from “Adrift”: both natural and human-made trash. He has lived part-time in Greenport for the last 10 years.
Ron Barron received a BFA in painting from Carnegie Mellon University in 1959. After a lifetime of careers-professional dancer, television cameraman and director, high school English and humanities teacher, public television administrator, recording artists manager and record producer in Los Angeles and New York-Barron returned to his artwork.
In the last 5 years he has built a body of work of over 2,000 drawings, paintings, and scanned digital collages. He has had three solo exhibitions at the Butler Institute of American Art and gallery shows in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Savannah, and Nizhny Tagil (Russia).
This year his work will be shown for the first time at the South Street Gallery in Greenport, NY. His mural-size “Adrift” collages will be exhibited at the Trumbull Branch of the Butler Museum, and in 2016, he and his daughter, Megan Barron, will exhibit together at Station Independent Projects in New York City.
