Third Annual Community Spelling Bee at Jamesport Meeting House
May 13, 2016 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
The Jamesport Meeting House will hold its third annual Community Spelling Bee Friday evening, May 13, at 7:30.
The event is open to spellers of all ages, who are asked to sign up sponsors among their friends, family members, classmates and business colleagues. Last year’s competition included 29 spellers, backed by more than 300 individual sponsors from throughout the North Fork.
Dr. Jeff Greenberger, Latin teacher at Riverhead High School, will conduct the competition.
Entrance forms are available online at www.jamesportmeetinghouse.org or by emailing a request to email@example.com. If you have questions about participating, the Meeting House has a special spelling bee hotline at 631.722.0008.
Sponsorships for each speller should add up to a total of at least $50, with tax-free proceeds helping to restore and maintain the 285-year old Meeting House, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is the oldest public building on the East End.
A special award will be given to the speller who gathers the most individual sponsorships.
“Gathering sponsors makes the evening a truly community affair,” said event chairman Steve Berger. “It also adds to the fun as sponsors turn out to cheer for their favorite spellers.”
There is no admission charge for spectators, and all are invited to attend.
