Duck Carving & Blacksmithing Demonstration at Westhampton Beach Historical Society

July 14, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Free

Local schools may be closed for the summer, but Westhampton Beach Historical Society is providing a summer learning experience and all ages are welcome.  Talented, experienced craftspeople will demonstrate the fine art of traditional crafts at the Society’s 101 Mill Road, Westhampton Beach location.  Free to the public, the demonstrations will take place each Saturday from 10 am to 1 pm beginning June 30 and continuing through July, August, and the first two weekends of September.  Last year’s demonstrations were so popular that this year’s program has been expanded, under the leadership of Suzanne Alford, the Society’s Education and Community Outreach Coordinator.   Due to the Society’s August 4th presentation of “Civil War Living History” on the Great Lawn in Westhampton Beach on August 4, there will not be a craft demonstration on that date.  Following are dates and descriptions for the July programs.  Information for August and September will be available in July.

July 14 – DUCK CARVING

Watch an experienced wood carver craft decorative decoys from a block of wood into specific duck species with his carving knife.

July 14 – BLACKSMITH

See how a blacksmith reshapes iron using antique tools, a coal forge, anvil, tongs and post-vise.
