East End Jazz: The Heart of America — Songs of Our Roots at Jamesport Meeting House
October 24 @ 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm
In honor of America’s 250-year celebration, the Jamesport Meeting House will host an exclusive performance by East End Jazz, “The Heart of America: Songs of Our Roots,” on Saturday, October 24 at 7:30 p.m. The program explores the foundational music of the American experience, beautifully weaving together soulful blues, spiritual hymns and gospel, and the rich story telling of country music. Under the direction of bassist, arranger and East End Jazz Director Iris Ornig, the quartet will perform reimagined, jazz-infused versions of American classics such as “Oh, Susanna,” “Just a Closer Walk with Thee,” “This Land is Your Land” and others. Ms. Ornig describes the selections as, “The rhythmic heartbeat of the history of the United States of America.” Performing in the quartet will be the most talented jazz musicians from New York City and the East End: Lauren Lee on vocals, Taka Otomo at piano, Iris Ornig on bass, and Brian Woodruff on drums. Tickets are only $20 and may be purchased on the events page at www.jamesportmeetinghouse.org. Advance purchase is strongly recommended.
