Family Salt Marsh Exploration with SoFo
August 8, 2015 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
$7
Walk Leader: Crystal Possehl, South Fork Natural History Museum (SoFo) Nature Educator
The wonders found in a salt marsh never cease to amaze—watching an osprey dive and catch a fish; the motionless, then lightning quick hunting method of herons and egrets; the way a school of fish escapes the claws of a blue crab; even the methodical way mud snails clean up a fisherman’s leftover catch. Join Crystal on a nature walk, designed for all ages, at Munn Point, where the Town of Southampton has built a raised boardwalk that leads over a salt marsh to a beautiful area of Shinnecock Bay. The whole family can help herd fish into a seine net, watch birds with binoculars, “hunt” for hermit crabs, play with non-stinging comb jellies, or examine whatever else nature decides to gift us with. Parking is very limited; please call for reservations and inform us if you need to borrow a Southampton Town beach-parking permit.
To make a reservation for this program, please call the museum at 631.537.9735.
