“Les Sylphides” is a short non narrative romantic ballet, a “ballet blanc” originally choreographed by Michael Fokine with arresting music by Frederic Chopin. The ballet premiered in 1907 at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg by the Ballets Russes. Director Sara Jo Strickland has staged this ballet for the older Professional Level 2, 3 & 4 students of HBTS.
The “Littlest Mermaid” is a ballet originally conceived and choreographed by Miss Strickland and it will feature all the students of the Hampton Ballet Theatre School as well as Resident Guest Artists Adam and Gail Baranello of A&G Dance Company and Sara Bedell- Spataro an instructor at HBTS. Located in a kingdom under the sea, mermaid princess, seahorses, sharks, crabs, merwitches and all types of wondrous sea creatures will bring Hans Christian Anderson’s fairy tale alive. The whimsical costumes are designed by Yuka Silvera, luminescent lighting is designed by Sebastian Paczyynski and a seaworthy set design is by Miss Strickland.
Children from age 3 on up to adults will delight in watching the romantic “Les Sylphides” and enjoy the adventures under the sea in the “Littlest Mermaid”. Don’t miss this exciting spring ballet performance.
