HIFF 25th Anniversary Screening of “Pollock” at Guild Hall

August 30, 2017 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

The story of the artist begins with his marriage to Lee Krasner (Marcia Gay Harden), a brilliant artist in her own right whose efforts to promote her husband’s career often eclipsed her own painting The couple moves through poverty to recognition eventual wealth riding waves of alcoholic rages and tender reconciliation. POLLOCK marks the fourth time that Amy Madigan – who plays the bold and eccentric art collector Peggy Guggenheim – has successfully collaborated with her husband, Ed Harris. As an expatriate living in high bohemian style abroad, Guggenheim established a crucial link between the American and European art worlds.

When the war forced her to return to her native New York, she opened a gallery, Art of This Century, that quickly became a sensation and helped to legitimize several artists, Pollock included, who would soon form the nucleus of the New York School. Rounding out the POLLOCK cast is a company of prestigious actors who characterize the friends, lovers, family, competitors, and critics who surrounded Jackson Pollock and help shape his life and career in the emerging New York art scene.
