Jane Weissman Lecture on “Man of Fire: The Murals of José Clemente Orozco” at Amagansett Library

A lecture by Jane Weissman, a community muralist and the co-author of “On the Wall: Four Decades of Community Murals in NYC.”

Diego Rivera, David Alfaro Siquieros and José Clemente Orozco produced extraordinary murals filled with memorable images commenting on Mexican history, politics and culture. José Clemente Orozco (1883-1949) possessed an aesthetic and moral vision that informed his stinging characterizations of oppression, hypocracy and greed.

He was equally critical of government, the church and military and, like his “Man of Fire,” he braved the flames, arriving at truths that still resonate today.
