Jazz en Plein Air featuring The Jam Session at Parrish Art Museum
August 28, 2015 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pmFree with Museum Admission
Richard Siegler, the curator of our Jazz en Plein Air series has chosen to open this season with an acknowledgement of the contribution of live Jazz on the East End by The Jam Session and The Thursday Night Live Band.
The Jam Session is a weekly Jazz performance series at Bay Burger restaurant in Sag Harbor, NY. Conceived in 2009, The Jam Session has attracted musicians from all across the globe and continues to present world-class special guests.
Special Guests are important to the vitality and diversity of The Jam Session. Many different styles of music have been displayed by past special guests, but still within the realm of “jazz” or “music of the world.” The idea behind the featured musicians is to promote diversity and to provide substance within the perimeters of The Jam Session. Although always a jam session, the special guests dominate the performance and inspire others to play outside their comfort zone and create new music.
The Thursday Night Live Band is the core house band. Their mission is to promote music appreciation to kids of all ages and to keep live Jazz alive. In 2011 The Jam Session Inc., a non-profit organization, began broadcasting their live performances on NPR station WPPB, 88.3 fm.
The Thursday Night Live Band includes Wayne Sabella on Piano, Peter Weiss on Bass, and Claes Brondal on drums.
Richard Siegler curates this third summer of this popular program of top rated jazz performances on The Mildred C. Brinn Terrace. Buffet dinner and drink specials will be available for purchase through the Golden Pear Café at the Parrish, so bring chairs and blankets and make a night of it!
