Katy’s Courage 5K

Katy’s Courage is a not-for-profit 501c3 organization honoringKaty Stewart, a precious young girl who inspired all who knew her throughout her lifetime. She died of a rare pediatric cancer at 12 years young. Her smile and kindness still continue to shine on in the memories of those who loved her, and her courage motivated the founding of this organization.

When: Saturday, April 18, 2014, Starts 8:30 a.m. sharp
Where: Sag Harbor, NY
Cost: Pre Reg: $25.00; $30.00 Day of Race
Check in: 7:00 – 8:15 am. Race starts promptly at 8:30
Course: Rather flat with a few small hills around Sag Harbor Village
Age Groups: 14 and under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80-89
Awards: Top 3 males and 3 females overall and first three in each age group.

The race starts on Water Street and finishes adjacent to the water and a beautiful harbor. The course is flat with only a few small gentle hills.

The race was originally organized by the East End Road and Trail Runners Club, RRCA to benefit Katy’s Courage 501(c)3 with net proceeds of this year’s race going toward local scholarships, The Katy’s Courage Fund for Pediatric Cancer Research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan and in support of the newly formed partnership: “Katy’s Kids @ CMEE,” with the goal of beginning in the fall of 2014 to offer play and expressive therapeutic counseling opportunities for East End children and adolescents in collaboration with the Children’s Museum of the East End.

The focus of the counseling will be grief or loss, including areas such as death of a loved one, divorce, adoption and immigration, and will utilize modalities such as art, music, poetry, dance/movement and drama in a friendly, familiar and supportive environment.
