BOOK & BOTTLE on Long Island American Indians
featuring DR. JOHN STRONG
with Rosemary McKinley
Few people may realize that Long Island is still home to American Indians, the region’s original inhabitants. Drawing on archaeological and documentary sources, John Strong will trace the story of the Unkechaugs from their ancestral past, predating the arrival of the Europeans, to the present day, explaining why the Unkechaugs are still here and why they never left.
Dr. Strong is Professor Emeritus of History and American Studies at Long Island University and the author of numerous publications, including The Unkechaug Indians of Eastern Long Island: A History, the most comprehensive analysis to date. He will be joined by Rosemary McKinley, a retired educator and author of the fictional The Wampum Exchange.
Wine and cheese will be served.
