‘IMMIGRATION AND ITS IMPACT ON THE SOUTH FORK’
Monday, April 9, 7 p.m. Bridgehampton’s Hampton Library
“Immigration and Its Impact on the South Fork” is the title of the Hamptons League of Women Voters’ next free community forum on Monday, April 9, 7 p.m. at Bridgehampton’s Hampton Library, 2478 Montauk Highway.
Organized by the League’s Government Committee, co-chaired by Cathy Peacock of Amagansett and Ann Sandford of Sagaponack, the forum will feature four speakers who will cover various aspects of the topic.
Martha Potter of Sag Harbor, a League Board member and retired history teacher who works with the East End immigrant community, will cover the history of immigration legislation and its impact on Long Island.
Larry Cantwell, former East Hampton Town Supervisor, will speak about the impact of immigrants on government services.
Michael Nenner, general manager of Gurneys Inn, Montauk, will discuss the impact of immigration on the labor force in the East End hospitality industry.
And Rob Carpenter, administrative director of the Long Island Farm Bureau based in Riverhead, will speak about the impact of immigration on East End agriculture.
Refreshments will precede the program, and a Q&A will follow.
Southampton Town’s SEA-TV will tape the forum for later viewing on Channel 22.
