Montauk Point Survey for Teens with SoFo
June 20, 2015 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm$2 – $9
Survey Leader: Crystal Possehl, South Fork Natural History Museum (SoFo) Nature Educator
Montauk Point is a very dynamic location in terms of geology and biology. The moraine reef that runs from the Point to Block Island has an abundance of seaweeds, which draws in a multitude of marine life from the ocean. Each teen will borrow a backpack of tools to perform a survey of the abiotic factors of the location, while they learn about the diversity of the plant and animal life found there. There will be extra tools to share, such as an O2 meter, hydrometer, seine net, plankton net, and microscope. This is also a great opportunity to start or continue your nature journal with your notes, drawings, and observations. Material fee: $2 for a notebook, or bring your own. There is an $8 per car parking fee at the Lighthouse parking lot.
