SPONSORED BY THE FRIENDS OF THE SHELTER ISLAND PUBLIC LIBRARY The Annual Shelter Island Turkey Plunge benefits the Shelter Island Public Library.
Participants and Sponsors
Participants can either register online or in the Library. Download your participant registration packet here. We ask that you raise a minimum of $25 for a plunge … anything over that amount is gratefully received and you will be in the running for the “most money raised” prize. Please return your pledges and checks/cash to the Library by November 23rd. Sign-ups can be made at the event on the 24th for a $30 donation …. but it is more fun to have others back your effort and it gets them involved as well. Sponsors can pledge directly to the participant or online here.
Day of the Plunge:
Please plan to come to Crescent Beach (Sunset Beach parking lot) after 10:00 AM on November 24th to check in. If you have already filled out a form and signed the release, please check in and get your t-shirt and button at the Pre-registration table. If you are in costume, please go to where the judges are located so they can appreciate your creativity and pick a winner. T-shirts and buttons will be available for all participants. We will have hot cider and donuts for plungers and spectators. The Tavern will have delicious and hot turkey chili for sale for the benefit of the Friends. Take home a quart or so – its guaranteed to warm you up! There is no standard for plunging – ankles, knees, waist, or head under – all acceptable!
Prize categories: Best Costume – Male & Female; Most Money Raised – Individual & Team effort
Other prizes will be raffled off – your registration is your raffle ticket and winners will be notified after the event.
The registration packet contains a registration form, suggestion for fundraising form, pledge form, and a Turkey Plunge template for letter writing by post or email.
