Opening for “Looking Forward into the Past” at RJD Gallery

MEET CELEBRATED ARTIST KADIR NELSON AND ENJOY NEW WORK FROM HIS HARLEM SERIES.
Kadir Nelson has created 12 United States postal stamps, two of which were released in the past year; he is collected by world renowned individuals, including Michael Jackson, Steven Spielberg, Queen Latifah, and Spike Lee.
The painting for Michael Jackson’s album garnered a Guinness Book of World Records honor. Nelson has several works in permanent public collections, including the U.S. House of Representatives, Coca-Cola Corporation, NCUU Foundation, and has been acquired by three museums.
His work is also in the National Baseball Hall of Fameand the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. He has written and illustrated over 30+ children’s books with several million in print in around the world.
Kadir has received several Society of Illustrator Awards, repeatedly won Caldecott honors and numerous other awards for his paintings and books, as well as multiple New Yorker and Sports Illustrated covers.
The exhibit will include a variety of work from contemporary artists who possess techniques reminiscent of classic painters, offering nostalgic yet timeless narratives that capture integrity, simplicity and passion. It is these core elements that in today’s society seem fleeting.
