Porch Light Wonders with North Fork Audubon

July 11, 2014 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Free

Moths are some of the most undersold and misunderstood insects. Although moths and butterflies make up one of the largest groups of insects with approximately 175,000 species, most people tend to direct their attention towards the beautiful colors and daytime habits of butterflies.

Moths tend to get forgotten or written off as drab, boring and often, pests. In fact, of those 175,000 species of moths and butterflies, 157,000 are moths! Moths can be beautiful in color, intelligent in their behavior, and unbelievable in their adaptability to environmental stress and predation.

From moths that mimic bees in order to steal their honey to those that can jam bat sonar to escape detection, moths are amazing animals that deserve some time in the spotlight!

North Fork Audubon and Suffolk County Parks are giving them their due in this presentation at the Red House at Inlet Pond County Park at 8 p.m. on July 11
