Raise the Roof Fundraiser for Riverhead’s First Congregational Church at The Suffolk Theater

The Raise the Roof concert is the creation of friend and Musical Director George Moravek and includes many very talented local musicians and vocalists who have ALL volunteered to perform today. We thank them for helping us restore our Sanctuary and generously sharing their talents with us.
George Moravek, Raise the Roof Musical Director

George is the Producer and Musical Director of the Raise the Roof Concert. George taught music and drama at the Riverhead schools for almost 30 years. During that time he directed many high school shows and also started the Riverhead Faculty and Community Theater. He was the Minister of Music at the First Congregational Church of Riverhead and has fond memories of his time there. After retiring George and his partner Robert lived in Savannah Georgia for a while before moving back to Riverheads which more like home.

David Brandenburg, Island Jazz Express Musical Director

David Brandenburg, Musical Director of the Island Jazz Express – a Long Island big band, has written a wide variety of music for large and small ensembles. His work includes music for Broadway star Jean Colella and Jim Walton, Sesame Street, the N.Y. Knicks and Off-Broadway production Taming of the Shrew: Extreme. Brandenburg is founder, Musical Director and Producer for the Hamptons Shakespeare Festival and previously he was Musical Director of the Yale Jazzy Ensemble. He is Executive Director of The Choral Society of the Hamptons and South Fork Chamber Orchestra.

Marguerite Volonts, Pianist and Vocalist

Marguerite Volonts is a retired public school music teacher who likes to keep it going by playing tennis, writing, singing jazz songs from the American Songbook, and teaching violin at Our Lady of Mercy in Cutchogue.  She has some theatrical experience (Mame, Mother Superior in Nunsense), and has been a member of the Riverhead Faculty Community Theater for 35 years. Marguerite can also be found singing and playing the viola at Castello Di Borghese Cutchogue every Saturday afternoon.

Wendy Walsh, Emcee and Auctioneer

Col. Wendy Walsh/DeMaria, a professional Auctioneer since 1994, an Optician by trade, married to Dr. Frank DeMaria DPM., son Nicholas, daughter Katey-Rose, resides in Eastport. We love traveling, entertaining, antiquing, and all things Rotary.
