BRONX RIVER WATERWASH (2014), directed by Jean Marie Offenbacher, is a documentary chronicling the creation and stewardship of WATERWASH ABC out of a polluted riverside wasteland. The project transformed privately owned commercial space and its storm water into a permanent public wetland/grassland park.
It was funded by the NYS Attorney General’s Office through the Bronx River Watershed Initiative.WATERWASH ABC was conceived of by North Fork environmental artist Lillian Ball in collaboration with Rocking the Boat, a non-profit organization that teaches local youth to build wooden boats and do environmental work on the Bronx River.
Jean Marie Offenbacher’s initial work in film was as an artist, creating 16mm experimental films. Her first documentary feature, Tea on the Axis of Evil (2009), focused on youth in Syria. It won the Noor Award for Best Documentary at the Arab Film Festival and gained international recognition.
