SoFo visits the East Hampton Shellfish Hatchery

May 2, 2015 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Free
East Hampton Shellfish Hatchery

Tour Leaders: John “Barley” Dunne, Hatchery Director; and Kate Rossi-Snook and Peter Topping, Bay Management Specialists

Join Barley and the crew to see how the Town raises millions of seed shellfish annually — hard clams, oysters, and bay scallops — for the purpose of restocking public shellfish beds in the Town. The Hatchery will be conducting an actual spawn of clams and oysters. You’ll have an opportunity to learn about shellfish biology, see larval and early juvenile rearing stages of millions of these animals, and see the food production system needed for culturing them. For adults and children 10 and up. There is no charge for this program.

To make a reservation for this program, please call the museum at 631.537.9735.

This is a FREE program for SoFo Members and nonmembers
