Southold 375th Mile Marker Day
May 16, 2015 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm$5
Celebrating Southold’s colonial heritage as part of the town’s 375th Anniversary festivities
More than 260 years ago, Benjamin Franklin took a wagon ride down the North Fork
measuring out the post road for the colonies. On May 16, Southold Town invites the
public to follow in his footsteps on a journey down the North Fork in search of
Franklin’s postal mile markers, with refreshments and events scheduled at selected
mile markers along the way.
Begin at Mile Marker #7 on Franklinville Road in Laurel, across from Aldrich Lane.
Attendees are urged to begin their crawl before 3 p.m. in order to finish before
Benjamin Franklin leaves at 5 p.m. $5 Admission collected at start.
Answer a question at each mile marker and receive a collectable postcard stamped at
the end with a USPS stamp by Benjamin Franklin himself!
