Suffolk Project in Aquaculture Training
EMCA invites you to learn about SPAT, the Suffolk Project in Aquaculture Training. The program will be presented by EMCA member Karen Sauvigné, a longtime volunteer in the SPAT program at Cornell Marine Biology Center at Cedar Beach.

SPAT is a community effort through Cornell Cooperative Extension to repopulate the Peconic Bays with shellfish and the biologic features (such as eel grass) that support shellfish. SPAT members learn about oysters and other shellfish, from breeding to culturing, spawning and planting and “gardening oysters. SPAT shellfish gardeners grow oysters from seed (tiny shellfish) to edible, in the canals at the Cornell’s Marine Biology Center Creek or at their own docks
