The month of May is the optimal time to find Warblers migrating through our area. Traveling from South and Central America, Mexico and the West Indies, a few of these neo-tropical migrant songbirds are staying here to breed, while many are only stopping by on their way to boreal breeding grounds north. Our eastern Warblers are strikingly colorful, active and exciting to find in your own backyard or favorite nearby wooded trail. This unique multi-media learning program will use photos, video and bird call recordings to focus specifically on how you can find and identify New World Warblers during their Spring migration. Migratory hotspots, both local and outside of our area will be presented. Good “Tools of the Trade” (books, optics, apps) will also be discussed. Pat Hanly, the presenter, is a local North Fork birder, hawk-watcher and nature enthusiast.
Hike to follow May 5 at 8 a.m. at Inlet Pond County Park, 65275 Route 48, Greenport.
