Talk & Book Signing: Radiographic by Steve Miller and Carl Safina at Parrish Art Museum

Friday, November 30, 2018 – 6:00pm

$12 | Free for Members, Children, and Students

Join artist Steve Miller and writer Carl Safina in a conversation about their new book, Radiographic, followed by a book signing.

In the book, Steve Miller looks closely at how human beings and their environment and objects are part of the larger whole. Through his innovative use of scientific technology and equipment like electron microscopes, x-rays, MRI machines and even Rorschach blots, Miller examines subjects through a lens that results in the creation of monumental photographic imagery that is not only beautiful and unusual, but tells a story of man, nature, and our universe.

About Steve Miller

Steve Miller creates paintings, prints, photographs, and sculptures based on his interest in the way art and science can illuminate one another. Miller has photographed his own blood using a microscopic camera, developed multiple screen printing visualization projects with scientists from Brookhaven National Laboratory, and in Health of the Planet featured the Amazonian flora and fauna in a series of x-ray photographs. Shown internationally, his work has been reviewed in Le Monde, Art Press, The New York Times, Artforum, La Nouvelle Republique, and Art in America. Miller splits his time between New York City and the Hamptons.

About Carl Safina

Carl Safina holds the endowed chair for nature and humanity at Stony Brook University, where he co-chairs the steering committee of the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science and is founding president of the not-for-profit organization, The Safina Center. He hosted the 10-part PBS series Saving the Ocean with Carl Safina. His writing appears in The New York Times, Audubon, Orion, and other periodicals and on the Web at National Geographic News and Views, Huffington Post, and CNN.com. He has been recognized with MacArthur, Pew, and Guggenheim Fellowships, and his writing has won Orion, Lannan, and National Academies literary awards.
