Celebrating Television on the North Fork
The Second Annual North Fork TV Festival will be held September 7 through 9 in Greenport, with screenings scheduled at the Greenport Theatre and at venues throughout the village.
According to the festival’s organizers, The North Fork TV Festival “is an affirmation of “‘he art of content.’ Celebrating the evolution of TV, the festival aims to elevate and draw attention to independent TV, while bringing together the innovative minds of TV executives, directors, writers and actors alike.”
The three-day festival will feature an awards night with Artistic Director Jerry Foley presenting the inaugural “NoFo Loud Whisper” and “Canopy” Awards, industry panels, screenings of independent television pilots and a closing night party at the East End Seaport Museum and Marine Foundation.
The festival opens on Thursday, Sept. 7 with a screening of the world premiere of “Greenport,” directed by Shannon Goldman, about a struggling Hollywood filmmaker who is determined to show the world that an autistic kid can do anything, starring Rob Hancock and Dimitri Spiridakis.
The screening will be followed by a VIP after-party at Noah’s restaurant.
Festivities on Friday, Sept. 8 include an Awards Night ceremony and the New York premiere of “Shoot Me Nicely,” directed by Elias Plagianos, which explores the New York City art and fashion world through the eyes of photographer Sean Wheeler. After losing his cushy magazine job and his superstar status, Sean takes odd jobs to pay the bills while his agent has been working overtime selling his paparazzi photos.
The screening and awards presentation will begin at 7 p.m., followed by an oyster season kick-off party at Castello di Borghese Vineyard in Cutchogue, with music by the HooDoo Loungers.
Saturday, Sept. 9 includes a full day of screenings and panel discussions at the Greenport Theatre, beginning with “Death Lives” at 11:30 a.m., the story of what Death does after he quits his job as the Grim Reaper.
The day’s screenings also include “Up North,” the story of an innocent teenager, an elderly convict and a vicious street hustler fighting their way out of the corrupt prison system and dangerous city streets at 2 p.m. and “From The Ashes,” which captures Americans in communities across the country as they wrestle with the legacy and future of the coal industry at 5 p.m.
