Justice for George Floyd Protest and March in Hampton Bays
June 14 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Sunday, June 14 from 5 to 7 p.m.
We are moved to action after the vicious and callous murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis police. We stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters all over the country who demand an end to racist policing. We also remember two other recent victims of deadly racism Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor and the sadly all too long list of other victims.
On Sunday, June 14th at 5pm, we will meet at the Hampton Bays Train Station (Good Ground Road, Hampton Bays). Please wear masks and social distance as possible. Bring signs.
We will then march through Hampton Bays. We will either do this once or twice depending on how many of us there are. (more details to come on this)
We will be doing an act of solidarity for 8 minutes and 46 seconds, the amount of time George Floyd had a knee crushing his neck. . Please participate in whatever way is personally comfortable to you (just remember George Floyd didn’t have that option). Some will choose to lay in the road on their stomachs, others will take a knee, some will sit. It is important for people to think and feel how long 8 minutes and 46 seconds is.
We know this is a difficult time and realize some would like to participate, but are at a higher risk for coronavirus….don’t worry, we got you! Please park your car on Main Street in Hampton Bays in either direction and put your sign outside your car facing the road. We would also ask marchers to do the same!
Black Lives Matter!
Note from Lisa Votino – All are welcome. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me at 631-383-1066 or LMVotino@gmail.com. Please do this if you hear any rumors as there are many people who would like to silence these protests by instilling fear. Don’t let hate win.
