Hallockville Museum Farm is issuing a call for entries for a Preserve, Produce and Honey Contest at its 45th Annual Country Fair on October 3 and 4.
The Country Fair planners also have something else up their sleeves — straw! — for a new scarecrow making contest to be held during the fair.
Food Contest Call for Entries
Local growers, cooks and beekeepers are invited to enter the contest to earn bragging rights and cash prizes for the first-place winner in each category. The contest categories are potatoes, squash (including pumpkins), preserves, and honey.
Entry forms may be submitted online and are due by Friday, September 25. Items to be entered into the contest must be dropped off at the Hudson-Sydlowski House at Hallockville Museum Farm on September 28 and 29 between the hours of 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Winners will be announced at the Country Fair. Details can be found at www.hallockville.org.
Scarecrow Making Contest Details
The Hallockville Country Fair is adding a Scarecrow Making Contest to its roster of family-friendly activities. Fairgoers are encouraged to get creative and build their most scary, festive, realistic or funky scarecrows. Stakes, straw and apparel will be provided – while supplies last.
Contestants are encouraged to bring their own scarecrow apparel and props so that they can bring a unique, prize-worthy flair to their creations.
The first-place winner will receive a cash prize. The scarecrow making contest will be open until 1 p.m. on Sunday, October 4. Winners will be announced at the fair at 2 p.m. Sunday. The scarecrows will remain on display at Hallockville Museum Farm through the end of October.
