Riverhead is embarking on a new experiment on four Thursdays this summer, a series of outdoor festivals modeled on Patchogue’s “Alive After Five” series, designed to help bring people back to downtown Riverhead.

“Alive on 25,” organized by the Riverhead Downtown Business Improvement District, kicks off this coming Thursday, July 14, when Main Street will be closed to traffic, enabling a pop-up music festival with a craft fair, food vendors, community dance lessons, family activities, a classic car show and music by bands sponsored by restaurants throughout downtown Riverhead.

Six bands will also perform throughout the evening, which begins at 5 p.m. and runs to about 9:30 p.m. — Boomshot, The Strecker Band, Blue Moon Rising, Oogee Wawa, DJ Yankee & Joe Vicino Band and Dub Steady.

The festivities continue on July 28, with music by Beer Money, Hi Def, the Nick Kerzner Band, Paparazzi, DJ Yankee & The Dead Head Band and Second Shift.

On August 11, Gnarly Headz, Oogee Wawa, Kerry Kearney, Billboard Live, DJ Yankee & Yankee Rebel, Who Are Those Guys and 60s Invasion will perform, and on the final evening, August 25, Oogee Wawa, Flip Switch, 3Dee, Buttered Soul, DJ Yankee & Rhythm & Blues Express and Dub Steady will perform.

Restaurants will provide food tastings on all evenings in an event called “Taste of the Towns.”
