Good Morning!

• Today will be mostly sunny, with a high near 66 degrees and a northeast wind 10 to 16 miles per hour. It will be partly cloudy overnight, with a low around 50. Saturday will be mostly sunny, with a high near 66, and Sunday will be mostly sunny, with a high near 75.

• Our Gardenwise columnist, Susan Tito, has been growing several species of sedum — commonly known as stonecrop — for years, but it is only recently that she’s acquired a newfound appreciation for them. They may not have the showiest blooms or sweetest fragrance in the plant kingdom, but sedums are among the few perennials on her property that are truly spectacular this time of year. • Poets Saleem Abdal-Khaaliq and Sarah Azzara will read from their recent works at Canio’s Books in Sag Harbor this evening at 6 p.m. [Free]
 
• Stony Brook University Astronomer Professor Neelima Sehgal will discuss “Dark Energy and the Accelerating Universe” in a special Montauk Observatory lecture this evening at 7 p.m. at the South Fork Natural History Museum (SoFo). [Free]
 
• SoFo also plays host on Saturday to the 20th Anniversary celebration of the Long Pond Greenbelt, a family-friendly series of nature walks, crafts and information sessions from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. [Free]

• The honor society at Suffolk County Community College’s Eastern Campus in Riverhead is hosting a 5K run and walk this Sunday, Oct. 7 to benefit immigrant advocacy on Long Island. More details are online here.

• Riverhead’s 43rd annual Country Fair will be held this Sunday, Oct. 7 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
