Veterans Day Events: Commemorations, Riverhead to Hold Cherry Tree Dedication in Veterans Park

The Town of Riverhead Veterans Advisory Committee will hold a special dedication ceremony on Veterans Day, Monday, Nov. 11, at 1 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park in Calverton.

The Cherry Blossom Tree Program was initiated earlier this year by the Town of Riverhead’s Veterans Advisory Committee, which invited community members to sponsor and dedicate trees bearing the name of an honored veteran.

Thirty trees have been purchased by individuals and now have been planted, each accompanied by a granite marker bearing the name of the veteran being honored.

This event will commemorate the newly planted cherry blossom trees, honoring veterans’ service and sacrifice.

“This initiative serves as a living tribute in an ideal setting in a park named to honor our Veterans, across from Calverton National Cemetery,” according to Councilman Ken Rothwell.

All are welcome to join this tribute. Veterans Memorial Park is located at 5789 Middle Country Road in Calverton.

For more information on attending the dedication, or to submit an application for a Cherry Blossom Tree and Memorial (accepted on an ongoing basis), contact contact the Town Board Coordinator at 631.727.3200 x253 or tbc@townofriverheadny.gov.
