Internationally acclaimed author Colum McCann will deliver a talk on Friday, Jan. 3, 2025, at 7:30 p.m. at the Peconic Landing Auditorium in Greenport.
Presented by Peconic Landing’s member-run Lifetime Learning Speakers Bureau, McCann’s presentation, “Finding Repair in a Broken World,” will delve into the transformative power of storytelling as it relates to Narrative 4, the global non-profit he co-founded.
McCann, a Dublin native now residing in New York City, is widely recognized for his award-winning works, including “Let the Great World Spin,” which earned the 2009 National Book Award and a spot on The New York Times Readers List of “100 Best Books of the 21st Century.”
His 2020 novel, “Apeirogon” received immediate international acclaim, building on the success of “Transatlantic (2013)” and “American Mother (2024).” A member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters since 2017, McCann’s newest novel, “Twist,” is set for publication in March 2025.
A central focus of McCann’s Jan. 3 talk will be Narrative 4, the global non-profit founded by McCann and Lisa Consiglio in 2013, which brings young people together to “walk in one another’s shoes.”
Narrative 4 uses personal storytelling to build empathy between young people, so they can improve their communities and the world together. Led by globally influential artists, educators, students and community advocates, it is a global educational organization that promotes the exchange of stories as a way to connect students to each other, to break down barriers, and shatter stereotypes.
A Q&A session will follow, and books will be available for purchase from Burton’s Bookstore. The event is free and open to the public, but space is limited and reservations are strongly recommended.
